Born in the mountains. Worn by those who know.
The Muzo Formation sits in the Western Andes of Colombia — a narrow band of black shale that has produced the world’s most coveted emeralds for over five centuries. The Spanish fought wars for these stones. Maharajas built collections around them. Today, very few reach the market with their provenance intact.
Casa de Esmeraldas sources directly from Bogotá’s emerald district through a relationship built over four decades. Every stone we select is chosen in person, evaluated under natural light, and certified for Colombian origin before it leaves the country. What arrives in your hands has a traceable story — from the mountain, through Bogotá, to your finger.
The Muzo ring was designed around one principle: the stone is the statement. A wide brushed band in 18K gold. A full bezel that frames without competing. A satin exterior that absorbs light while the emerald commands it. Nothing added. Nothing removed.
The Stone
Gemologists have a term for it: Muzo green. A specific depth of color — vivid without being loud, saturated without losing transparency — that no other source in the world consistently produces. It is the reason Colombian emeralds have commanded premiums for five hundred years.
Each stone in a Muzo ring is selected for this color above all else. We look for vivid to intense saturation, strong transparency, and the natural character that makes every Colombian emerald irreplaceable. Minor inclusions are expected and accepted — they are the fingerprint of a natural stone, not a flaw.
All stones carry minor cedar oil treatment, the industry standard for Colombian emeralds for generations. This is disclosed on every GIA certificate and does not affect origin classification or long-term value.
